Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbs have been used as medicine for thousands of years. Herbs are a powerful tool for healing and throughout the centuries have been used to treat a wide range of conditions, internal and external. Harnessing the healing power of plants & minerals is not a new trend, it is ancient wisdom passed down through ancestral lineage. At Copal we are privileged to carry this knowledge forward to help speed up your healing process.

Plants are Medicine.

Maybe you are new to Chinese herbs and don’t know anything about them. Maybe you took them once and got a bag filled with leaves and twigs to boil that you couldn’t identify. So what is it? Chinese herbs are often plants you already know. Things like ginger, safflower, magnolia, honeysuckle, mint, citrus peel, and ginseng are used. Other plants you might not recognize, as it does not typically grow in the United States, or it is the root or bark of the plant.

Each part of the plant has different healing properties and chemical constituents in them. When you boil or soak herbs you pull out these various compounds into a solution — often a tea that you drink. There are many ways to take herbs, offering various levels of potency and convenience.

Just like ANY medicine, it may take a few tries to get the right formulation and dosage for your condition. Chinese herbs are very safe when prescribed by a trained herbalist.

Herbal Formulas Tailored to Your Body.

Chinese herbal medicine is almost always used as a formula, instead of a single herb. These combinations of herbs are put together very specifically to address the dynamic of disruption in your body. Taking herbs along with regular acupuncture treatments can be significantly more powerful for healing certain conditions. Talk to us to see if herbs are right for you.

It is important to note that not all herbs are appropriate for all people. Even seemingly simple herbs like ginger, turmeric, and ginseng can be inappropriate for certain body constitutions. Often times the “wellness industry” will take a supplement/plant/herb and tout its health benefits as a “superfood”, but this one size fits all approach to anything isn’t always the best idea. Please consult a professional herbalist before taking an herb.

It is important to know where your herbs come from. Not all companies have independent testing and quality control. We use herbs grown without the use of pesticides, fungicides, sulfites, or fumigation. Organic and ethically harvested herbs are always chosen whenever possible.
